How it's calculated

IBW (Devine) = 50 + 2.3 × (height_in − 60) for men, 45.5 + 2.3 × (height_in − 60) for women

height_in = height in inches above 5 ft (60 in). The headline figure is the average of the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas; a healthy-BMI range (18.5–24.9 × height_m²) is also shown.

Common questions

Which ideal weight formula is best?

There is no single best one. Robinson and Devine are common in clinical dosing, so seeing all four gives a sensible range.

Is ideal weight the same as a healthy weight?

Not exactly. These formulas give a single target, while the WHO healthy BMI range covers a band of acceptable weights.
