How it's calculated

WHR = waist ÷ hip; shape from bust : waist : hip ratios

bust, waist, hip = body circumferences. Waist-to-hip ratio = waist ÷ hip, bust-to-hip = bust ÷ hip. Shape (apple, pear, hourglass, inverted triangle, rectangle) is classified from these ratios.

Common questions

Is body shape a health measure?

No. This is a styling and fit guide. For health, waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio are more meaningful indicators.

How should I take the measurements?

Measure the fullest part of the bust, the narrowest part of the waist, and the widest part of the hips, keeping the tape level.
