A hydraulic line at 250 kgf/cm² runs at 3,556 psi, not 250 psi. Reading the number without the unit is how relief valves get set catastrophically wrong.

Two traps with this unit

  • kgf/cm² ≠ bar. They are close (1 kgf/cm² = 0.980665 bar) but not equal. Modern European cars specify bar; older ones and much Japanese equipment use kgf/cm². Do not treat them as interchangeable on safety-critical gear.
  • Gauge vs absolute. Most tire and equipment gauges read gauge pressure (above atmospheric). To get absolute pressure at sea level, add 1.033 kgf/cm². Mixing the two skews any conversion.
