How it's calculated

rectangle A = L × W; triangle A = ½ × b × h; circle A = π × r²; trapezoid A = ½(b₁ + b₂) × h

A = area, L/W = length and width, b = base, h = height, r = radius, b₁/b₂ = parallel sides, π ≈ 3.14159. Result also shown in ft², yd², cm² and hectares.

Common questions

Can I mix units, like feet for length and cm for width?

Each dimension has its own unit selector, so you can enter whatever you have and the calculator converts to square metres.

How do I get the area of an L-shaped room?

Split it into rectangles, find each area separately, and add the results together.
